ING brought its global team of IT professionals together to improve IT services during a 24-hour hackathon. A livestream ensured that 2581 hackers in 17 different countries were continuously connected, able to consult, share best practices, and be entertained. VIXY Live was the proud organizer of the ING Global Hackathon 2024.

What is the ING Global Hackathon 2024?

ING brought together its global team of IT specialists with a singular goal: to collaborate and create innovative IT solutions. By fostering engagement and encouraging creative thinking, ING motivated its employees to push boundaries and explore new ideas, while the time pressure of the hackathon ignited their ingenuity and resourcefulness. Held on March 13, 2024, the event facilitated cross-border collaboration, resulting in numerous groundbreaking solutions and highlighting ING’s commitment to driving impactful innovation.

The Challenge: 2581 Hackers, 17 Countries, 1 Goal

Ambitions were high, and the deadline to deliver was tight. Time proved to be the primary challenge in organizing the ING Global Hackathon. With only a short 2-month preparation window and an intensive program to plan, every moment counted. Hosting a 24-hour hackathon required more than just strong satellite connections and well-equipped workspaces – it demanded meticulous planning, rest areas, relaxation opportunities, and diverse entertainment to sustain energy levels. VIXY’s team eagerly embraced these challenges!

The Solution: Content, Competition, and Fun

A dynamic program was crafted to combine creativity and competition with necessary entertainment. Divided into hundreds of teams, hackers tackled ING’s challenges within a tight timeframe, presenting their proposed solutions for evaluation by a jury in less than 24 hours. This competitive element ensured a vibrant atmosphere at the Sugar Factory in Halfweg, the hackathon’s central hub. Meanwhile, roving reporters provided interim reports from the various remote locations, participants met for virtual happy hours, and fitness instructors led 5-minute stretch breaks to keep sleep-deprived hackers sharp.

The Result: A Flawless Execution

Thanks to the close collaboration between ING, VIXY, and some of VIXY’s trusted partners, we orchestrated a successful and engaging event. Over the course of 24 hours, a total of 2581 hackers from 17 different countries were connected via livestream and generated some remarkable IT solutions. Mission accomplished!

The Role of VIXY

For the ING Global Hackathon 2024, VIXY Live partnered with esteemed partners to provide comprehensive event support that extended well beyond technical aspects. Together, we facilitated on-site event logistics, developed a dynamic program, and provided creative direction and production for the live event and livestream broadcast. Editors generated content onsite, speakers received thorough briefings, and a specialized toolkit was crafted for the roving reporters. Close coordination among technicians ensured flawless execution of lighting, sound, and connectivity across all locations. By being involved at an early stage in the planning process, we helped create and execute a truly exceptional and impactful experience.
